Economist Mickey Ceara is against tax reform

Economist Miguel Ceara Hatton (Mickey) said yesterday, Monday 28 May, that he is opposed to any tax reform this year. He asked why the government would create a tax reform since they knew the electoral spending would increase the fiscal deficit. He stated that the fiscal deficit so far this year exceeds RD$48 billion pesos. In his opinion, the first thing that needs to be done is to adjust government spending. He said that nobody is willing to have their tax money spent on abuses of state powers. Ceara Hatton noted that the accumulated deficit as of April is equal to 2.1% of the GDP and this can only be attributed to "an abuse of the powers of the state." According to the Hoy newspaper this reflects some fiscal lack of responsibility on the part of the Fernandez administration.
