Supreme Court calls for penal judges to act with caution

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mariano German Mejia, has issued a call to the country's penal court judges to act prudently as they hand down decisions on preventive custody. He said that judges needed to be prudent "during all stages" of their decision-making process. The pronouncement comes at a time, according to Listin Diario, when tough questions are being asked about decisions by some judges who seem to favor people accused of serious crimes. These complaints are coming from the Justice Department and the National Drug Control Department (DNCD).
