Yesterday, Tuesday May 29, President Leonel Fernandez inaugurated the Mario Ortega Pavilion in the municipality of San Francisco de Macoris, built at a cost of over RD$54 million.

President Fernandez said that he has inaugurated more than 60 vital works in Duarte province since 26 January and more than 200 since 2004.

He said the sports center, which will be used for basketball and volleyball, would benefit young people locally.

The new facility was blessed by Monsignor Jesus Maria de Jesus Moya, the Bishop of the San Francisco de Macoris diocese, followed by a welcome speech by the provincial governor Luz Elena Plata. Sports Minister Felipe Payano, Hacienda Minister Daniel Toribio and Luis Manuel Bonetti from the President's administrative office also attended the event, along with Luis Sifres from the Supervisory Office of State Works, the director of the Presidency Social Plan, Emigdio Sosa, Nicolas Calderon from the subsidized cafeteria program, Duarte Province senator Amilcar Romero and the mayor of San Francisco de Macoris, Felix Rodriguez, as reported in Diario Libre.
