On Monday, 28 May the United States of America celebrated Memorial Day to honor veterans and soldiers killed in wars.

Dominican soldiers who fell in conflict were honored during ceremonies celebrated in Upper Manhattan organized by families and friends.

The first Dominican-American soldier to die in Iraq was Ryan Tejeda who was killed on 11 April 2003, less than a year after the invasion. In his memory the post office in front of the house where his parents still live and the intersection of 180th Street and Saint Nicolas Avenue have been named after him, reports Diario Libre.
