Listin Diario reports that more than fifty companies, two of the major electricity generators and more than 6,500 vehicles in the Dominican Republic are using natural gas, establishing the fuel as a solid market in the country. With as much as a 70% saving by switching from gasoline to natural gas (NGV) a car owner can put up with the major complaint expressed by the people who use this fuel: as much as a 30 minute wait to fill up at the stations, because there are still very few providing the gas. The government is also supposed to take the unprecedented step of eliminating the ad-valorum tax on natural gas, according to Salvador Rivas, who heads the Department on Non-Conventional Energy at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Rivas noted that not only AES Dominicana is using natural gas, because Seaboard also installed a 108-megawatt generator that runs on the fuel.
