The Senate (and the Chamber of Deputies) took off almost two months from their legislative work to concentrate on politics during the presidential campaign. Hoy newspaper says that the bills dormant in Congress include the creation of the Anti-Corruption Participative Initiative (IPAC) that has been languishing in the Senate Justice Commission for the past few months. Others include the Bill for Integrity of Public Officials and another that seeks to regulate the Popular Legislative Initiative (IPL), which was created in the 2010 Constitution to check corruption in government.
President Leonel Fernandez presented the Anti-Corruption Participative Initiative (IPAC), justifying it as a permanent mechanism to promote government interaction with civil society actors, the business sector, international organizations, non-profits, universities and professional bodies.
Hoy reports that the bill for Integrity of Public Officials was presented by senator Julio Cesar Valentin, while the IPL was presented by senator Felix Bautista, who has been constantly singled out for corruption in public office.
