Coach John Calipari (Coach Cal) reports on the start of training to prepare the Dominican men's basketball team for its last chance of qualifying for the London Olympics. The DR will play against Russia and South Korea in the first round qualifier in Caracas, Venezuela on 2-8 July. The top three teams win one of the final three berths for the 12-team Olympics basketball tournament. The team is training at the Joe Craft Center, home of the Wildcats, winners of the 2012 NCAA championship. He reports that the younger Dominican players in the team had four practices in two days before the more veteran players like Al Horford and Jack Michael Martinez join them this week. Calipari acknowledges they have a difficult task ahead. "The teams we will face at the 2012 FIBA World Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela are the best teams from all regions of the world." He says that as part of the preparation, the team will also play exhibition games in Cincinnati before the team leaves for Puerto Rico on 15 June to play in the FIBA CentroBasket.

"As we get ready to make some history, I'm glad the Big Blue Nation is once again behind us and is supporting this team. It was a great experience last year that helped my staff and I with our national championship team," he says.
