The famous Spanish judge, Baltasar Garzon will speak at the Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) this evening, Monday, 4 June. Garzon is the former Spanish jurist who came to international attention when he issued an international warrant for the arrest of former Chilean President, General Augusto Pinochet in the late 1990s.
He had already made a name for himself when serving on Spain's central criminal court, the Audiencia Nacional, which investigated the most important criminal cases in Spain, including terrorism, organized crime and money laundering.
His address at Funglode will be on "Truth, Justice and Reparation." During his talk, he will focus on the concept of universal justice as a mechanism to guarantee there is no impunity on a global scale in matters related to terrorism, genocide, torture and other crimes against humanity that have marked the history of Latin America. The event, which is free, is set for 7:30pm at the Funglode auditorium in Santo Domingo.
