Some 60 children have been provided with prosthetic devices thanks in part to the Dominican Shriners working together with the Dominican Association for Rehabilitation in Santo Domingo. According to Listin Diario, the beneficiary children were from poor families from across the country. Four specialists from the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts took part in the now-traditional provision of these prosthetic devices. Two or three times a year, the doctors come to treat patients who need these devices for problems with their arms, legs or hips. Some of the children have older devices replaced with new ones, while others are evaluated and examined for new devices.

The Dominican Shriners is a branch of the Aleppo Shriners of Wilmington, Massachusetts. The Shriners have helped over 6,500 children in the Dominican Republic since 1979.
