Two minors were killed and three wounded by a large tractor-trailer that crashed into a building housing a colmado and an Internet center in the Santo Domingo slum neighborhood of La Cienega, along the stretch of the Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno Avenue known as Respaldo La Marina. The young boy was identified as Antony Fernandez, 15, and the girl as Julisa Bautista, 8. The accident happened yesterday, Monday 4 June at around 6:30 in the afternoon.
The injured are Evelin Perez, who was taken to the Luis Eduardo Aybar Hospital, her husband Jaqui Mateo, 47, and her son Jansel Mateo, 11, who were both taken to the Dario Contreras Hospital. The family lived in the house where the two small businesses were located and which was destroyed by the tractor-trailer. The driver of the heavy vehicle did not suffer major injuries, according to witnesses. They said that local residents had tried to stone him, but strong police action prevented worse consequences. The crash also affected a tire repair workshop. An employee, Pedro Pablo Morales, said that the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle while driving along the avenue.
