The Dominican basketball team is training at the University of Kentucky under Wildcats coach John Calipari for their important challenge of trying to be one of three teams to make the London Olympics basketball tournament. The DR will compete in the Caracas, Venezuela qualifier in early July.
But while University of Kentucky Coach Cal hones the skills of Dominican basketball players for the next two weeks in Kentucky, he is also taking the opportunity to convince Karl Towns, 16, one of the potentially top US 2015 college basketball recruits to choose the Big Blue Nation team.
Towns, a US citizen by birth who has taken his Dominican mother's nationality for sports, is one of the young players seeking a slot on the Dominican national team that will play in the London Olympics qualifier in Caracas, Venezuela in early July. Only a high school freshman in Piscataway, New Jersey, 6-foot-11 Towns would play alongside the likes of NBA veterans Al Horford, Francisco Garcia and Charlie Villanueva in pool play of the Olympic qualifying tournament July 2-8 in Caracas, Venezuela.
