Today, Wednesday 6 June sees the opening of an exhibition in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Dominican actress Maria Africa Gracia Vidal (Maria Montez).
Margarita Vicent De Morales and Tita Hasbun, representing the commission organizing the celebration, were interviewed by Patricia Solano on El Dia, channel 11, where they said that the exhibition would be open until 6 August.
Vicent De Morales said that we should honor Maria because she succeeded in becoming an important Hollywood actress as she always had high self-esteem during her childhood and her youth and always dreamt of being an actress.
She thanked the director general of the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) for issuing a stamp depicting Maria and invited Dominicans and foreigners to enjoy the exhibition.
During her career Maria, who took the surname Montez in honor of the dancer Lola Montez, appeared in 26 films, 21 made in the USA and five in Europe.
