President Leonel Fernandez reopened the Palacio de Voleibol Ricardo Arias at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo on Wednesday 6 June. Volleyball Federation president Alexis Garcia attended the event, along with Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, first vice president of the FIVB and Norceca, and the Dominican volleyball team that qualified to play in the London Olympics. The work was remodeled under the Office Supervisory of Public Works. Cristobal Marte gave the keynote address as president of the Project for National Teams. He said that volleyball is at its best point ever in history, and thanked the government and President Fernandez for their support.
Marte Hoffiz asked President Fernandez to name the pavilion in honor of Ricardo - Floriver - Arias, who he described as the master of masters in volleyball, with 50 years in the sport. At the site, President Fernandez took the microphone and said: approved. Ricardo Arias, who was present at the event, wept with emotion and hugged the President in appreciation. Minister of Sports Felipe Payano also spoke at the event.
The volleyball team handed President Fernandez, from the hands of Cristobal Marte, the gold medal the team won in the Tijuana Mexico Qualifier, where they made the 12 teams that will play in London.
