Federal prosecutors in Puerto Rico announced the arrest of six Dominicans for drug trafficking, after a boat they were traveling in was intercepted northwest of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico on Tuesday night, 5 June. The men were found to be in possession of 330 kilos of cocaine and 1.3 kilos of heroin, El Nuevo Dia newspaper reported in Puerto Rico. The drugs have a street market value of US$8 million, said the chief of the Federal prosecutors at a press conference held at the Coast Guard headquarters in Old San Juan. Rodriguez Velez identified the men under arrest as Jairo Torres Balbuena, Jose Manuel Rodriguez, Anheli Regalado, Berner Balbuena Perreaux, Jorge King and Juan Polanco Rodriguez. Reportedly, four of the men had tried to enter Puerto Rico on previous occasions.
The boat left from the Dominican Republic, but Rodriguez said that the drugs were from Colombia.
