The National Drug Control Department has announced the arrest of Janney Altagracia Suriel Rosario, daughter of recently elected Dominican overseas legislator, Levy Suriel Gomez. Suriel Rosario is accused of laundering money obtained from drug trafficking. She is the sister of Levy Jamil Suriel Rosario, another child of the elected ruling party PLD legislator, who has been under arrest in New York since 12 April 2012 in connection with a case of 75 kilos confiscated at a marina in Punta Cana, as reported in El Caribe. Roberto Lebron, spokesman for the DNCD said that the Suriel Rosario siblings were under surveillance by both the DNCD and the DEA for belonging to a network that trafficked in cocaine between the DR and the US. Levy Suriel Gomez was elected overseas legislator running on the ruling PLD ticket in the 20 May election.
