View Full Version : US wins Volleyball Grand Prix, DR is third

The US has won the Grand Prix, with the DR finishing third. The Dominican Republic (ranked ninth in the world) finished in third place in the FIVB Grand Prix Women's Volleyball played at the remodeled Volleyball Pavilion. The DR team lost to the US in the final game 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-15). Germany placed second. Germany, eighth in the world, which failed to qualify to the Olympic Games, defeated the Dominican Republic women's volleyball team. Germany won the game 25-16, 25-18 and 25-19. The DR team on opening day, Friday, 8 June at defeated Taipei, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18).

Coach Marcos Kwiek said that he let the younger set of the team play several of the games.

US player Destinee Hooker was voted the most valuable player.

Continuing to prepare for its participation in the London Olympics, the Dominican women's volleyball team now travels to Komaki, Japan to play Japan, Thailand and Puerto Rico, and from 22-24 June they will be in Taiwan for matches against Taiwan, Poland and Italy.
