President Leonel Fernandez has enacted a ruling for the application of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Business Law 488-08. Decree 284-12 published the ruling for the law that dates back to 19 December 2008. President Fernandez delivered the ruling to Francisco Capellan, president of the Small and Medium-sized Business Confederation (Codopyme).
Capellan said the sector is 98% of all business in the DR and contributes 30% of GDP and 76% of jobs. He said the ruling would contribute to an increase in small business activity.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Manuel Garcia Arevalo said that more than 50,000 small businesses, including formalized and informal business are part of the sector.
