According to a report sent to the Organization of American States (OAS) by Hipolito Mejia, the PRD presidential candidate in last month's election, Danilo Medina's election victory was the result of a chain of events that violated the laws and the rules of a democratic state.
The report, dated May 29, said that the government of the Dominican Republic had committed serious acts against the wishes of the people during the elections of May 20 2012 and that there were irregularities that altered the rights of the people to choose and be chosen.
Listin Diario writes that the document, which ran to six pages, was submitted to the secretary general of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza, and said that the acts committed violated the spirit of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
