Ten years after the introduction of the World Day Against Child Labor, more than 304,000 Dominican children are still engaged in work, which is depriving them of education, health and leisure time. Oscar Armangos, consultant to the International Labor Organization (ILO) said that 12% of the population between the ages of 5 and 17 in the country is working and 8% of them are doing dangerous work.
Nevertheless, he said that in the last few years this figure had been reduced by 6% and the goal was to eliminate the worst forms of child labor by 2015 and to abolish it completely by 2020, as reported in El Dia.
