President Leonel Fernandez will meet on Monday night with the members of the ruling PLD party's Political Committee to analyze the recent election campaign and the situation of the party as a political force, as reported in Listin Diario. He will also report on the work of the presidential transition commission. Danilo Medina, previously known as a Fernandez-dissident, will be taking office as of 16 August 2012.
Sources have told Listin Diario that over the next few weeks there will be a large research project carried out by party activists to hear their ideas and to put in place a system to analyze all of the results of the election campaign and analyze why the PLD obtained less votes than in previous elections.
In the elections, together with the allied votes, the PLD had a total vote of 2,323,463 equivalent to 51.21% of the total, whereas the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and allies received 2,130,189 votes or 46.95% of the vote. Nevertheless, party-by-party, the PRD received 1,911,503 votes for 42.13% while the PLD obtained 1,711,972, for 37.73% of the total votes cast.
