The International Monetary Fund (IMF) via the executive director for the Dominican Republic, Nogueira Batista, has sent a letter to President-elect Danilo Medina putting their management team and technical staff at his disposal to help him finalize economic plans, as reported in Listin Diario.

In the letter he said that they know of Medina's wishes to consolidate macroeconomic stability and promote growth during his term from 2012-2016 and wished to offer the assistance of their staff to work with his government and economic team to reach these objectives.

With reference to recent years, the letter stated that the Dominican Republic has had good economic development but, as in the majority of countries, it has faced important internal challenges and at the same time the increased volatility in the global economy.

During his electoral campaign, Medina reiterated that the reduction of poverty and social inequality would be his two main challenges in his proposal to improve the living conditions of the Dominican people.
