A commentary in page 2 of Hoy newspaper today, 15 June 2012, speculates on whether punctuality will return to the Presidential Palace. President Leonel Fernandez is notorious for being late. Over the 12 years of the Fernandez administrations, those who have appointments or attend events with Fernandez are known to arrive on time, "out of respect for the No. 1", but those in the know will come prepared for long waits. This is not the norm for Dominican presidencies, nevertheless. Other Presidents, including Hipolito Medina and Joaquin Balaguer, were known for being punctual.
Punctuality could be back. The Hoy newspaper commentator speculates that Danilo Medina, throughout the political campaign, has been known to be punctual. "Those who have made appointments with Medina know he arrives five minutes before the planned time for the meeting," writes the commentator who writes: "Will Medina continue to be punctual when he is chief of state?"
