Longtime Colonial City resident Nelia Barletta continuously found herself having to find the words to defend with friends and family why she lived between the sea, river and old city walls, "down there," in the Colonial City. Better to tell them with pictures.

The color, 500 years of history, characters, the DNA of the old city, its secrets, interiors, new and different perspectives, the essence and many surprises are in the new book she has just published with her sister-in-law Francina Lama. Their goal, that others may rediscover the city and also fall in love with the Colonial City, giving it its real worth.

A world class collection of 162 very contemporary photographs by Amadeo Anselin, Nemanja Brankovic, Ricardo Briones, Jaime Guerra, Amanda Livoti, Ricardo Piantini, Pancho Rodriguez and Manolo Vidal focus on the monuments, windows, doors, balconies, life and courtyards and interiors of the Colonial City. The explanations are both in English and Spanish.

Book profits will benefit the Abriendo Camino Foundation that has made a big difference in the lives of disadvantaged children in the northern slum barrio of Villas Agricolas in Santo Domingo. See abriendocamino, org.do (http://abriendocamino,org.do)
