President Leonel Fernandez leaves on a private flight to Brazil today, Tuesday 19 June to take part in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio +20 on 20-22 June in Rio de Janeiro. He is scheduled to return on Saturday, 23 June.
According to reports, the Dominican Republic will present its success story in increasing the country's forest cover and will propose the creation of a new specialized environmental body at the UN or to strengthen the UN Environmental Program (UNEP). Since 2003, the Dominican Republic's forest cover has increased by 8% to the present 39.7%.
President Leonel Fernandez is scheduled to speak at the conference on Thursday 21 June.
