The permanent representative of the Dominican Republic at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Mario Arvelo Caamano, has been elected as the new chair of the Agriculture Committee for the 2012-2014 term. This committee is in charge of examining farm, food and nutritional problems in the 192 UN member countries. Arvelo is the first Dominican to head the committee and the first Latin American since 1997.
