Electricity distribution company Edesur reports that 27 circuits were partially affected and out of service due to heavy rainfall over the weekend. The shutdown of Itabo I and II exacerbated the problems, as these units provide 245 megawatts, so several parts of the National District, the province of Santo Domingo and the southwestern region experienced power cuts. Itabo I was expected to re-enter service last night, Monday 18 June, and Itabo II will go on-line during today, Tuesday 19 June, said EDESUR.

Meanwhile, EDESUR said in a press release that the breakdowns have forced them to strengthen the repair brigades under contract in order to solve the problems as fast as possible. The affected circuits are in the National District, the province of Santo Domingo and the communities of Azua, San Juan, San Cristobal and Peravia. They had their electricity interrupted because of the breakdowns in the distribution networks. The 24-hour circuits were also affected in the metropolitan area of Santo Domingo as well as in the provinces.
