The National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) supports the proposed integrated fiscal (tax) reform suggested by four tax experts who took part in a panel discussion on the issue, sponsored by Diario Libre. ANJE says that this tax reform should be based on a restructuring that includes changes in the areas of expenditures, debt, income, transparency and legitimacy in public finances. "Our institution will not support a proposal that is merely more tax collections, which limits itself to the creation of new taxes or an increase in the existing taxes. We feel that any tax reform should not be based on the increase of the tax base, without first changing the composition and quality of public spending," said ANJE president Manuel Cabral Franco.

"Once the authorities restructure and reduce public spending, the basis for working on a consensus will be established," he added. The business association emphasized that society and the national productive sectors could not tolerate more "patches and amendments on the tax structure, which have increased the tax burden in a distorted fashion in terms of efficiency and fairness."

"ANJE is arguing for a complete tax reform, which allows participation and transparency, with the principal emphasis on the reduction of public spending, and which evaluates the tax structure in order to guarantee fairness and competitiveness of the productive sector," said Cabral Franco.
