Starting today, the rainfall that has affected much of the country since the weekend will start to fall off, lingering mainly in the south and central areas, according to the Weather Department (Onamet). Forecasters say that cloudy conditions will persist due to the low-pressure ridge over the Windward Channel and the humidity brought in by the southeasterly winds.

Yesterday, Monday 18 June, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported the evacuation of 270 people from their homes, mostly in the southwest of the country. They also reported that 50 houses were flooded over the weekend.

Faced with the possibility of continued rains, the COE has kept its green alert for Santo Domingo, San Cristobal, Santiago, San Jose de Ocoa, Peravia, Barahona and Azua. The COE reported damage in the municipality of Santo Domingo West in the area of Los Transformadores at kilometer 10 of the Duarte Highway, where some 30 houses were flooded. In Barahona, in the Batey de Bombita, another 20 houses were flooded. In both cases, according to the COE, the victims were taken to stay with friends and relations.
