Yesterday, Tuesday 19 June Luis Alberto Adames Mejia, a judge in San Pedro de Macoris declared that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) had violated the rights of 28 Dominicans of Haitian descent by denying them their national identity cards (cedulas).
He ordered the JCE and the local electoral courts of San Pedro de Macoris, Quisqueya, Consuelo, San Jose de los Llanos and Ramon Santana to hand over the identity cards to the plaintiffs within 10 days, and at the same time to pay each of those affected a thousand pesos per day for any subsequent delay.
