The coordinator of the Attorney General Office Asset Laundering Unit, German Daniel Miranda Villalona admits that due to weakness in the government's anti-crime policies, people who have been extradited after fulfilling their terms in the United States return to the country to demand the return of goods acquired through drug trafficking operations. He said the drug traffickers do not declare having any goods in the foreign country, while in the DR they have multi-million dollar assets from organized crime, as reported in El Dia. The goods are returned to them on the grounds that they have not been tried in the Dominican Republic. "We have said so and reiterated that the problem is the result of a weakness in the state's anti-organized crime policies. These are weaknesses that have to be corrected," he said.
