The Dominican Republic, addressing the United Nations Rio +20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, is calling for the world's developed nations to meet their commitments to help with the financing and transfer of technologies to developing countries, especially those in the Central American and Caribbean region. The country's stance was put across by Minister for the Environment, Ernesto Reyna.

The Dominican delegation is headed by President Leonel Fernandez. Hoy newspaper says that Reyna called on developed nations to comply with UN General Assembly resolution 2626, which calls for setting aside 0.7% of their GDP towards development programs in poorer nations. He called attention to the special problems facing the Caribbean, Central American and African nations.
