The titular member of the Central Electoral board (JCE) Cesar Feliz Feliz, says that they will file an appeal at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) against civil sentence Number 259-12 issued by the Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of the First Instance of San Pedro de Macoris. The official was speaking during an interview following the decision that orders the JCE to provide a "cedula"- the Dominican identification and voter registration document - to 28 children of Haitians and sets a fine of RD$1000 pesos a day for each day that compliance is delayed.

"The board is going to appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice as soon as it is notified of the sentence, which is when it becomes legally valid," he said. He recalled that the law allows for the option to question sentences if the person or institution affected is not in agreement. He reminded reporters, however, that he did not have the sentence in question in his hands, and that because of this he did not want to speculate, but he was categorical in saying that the JCE would adopt that decision (to appeal). He based his criteria on the fact that the JCE does not gain anything by denying citizens the right to obtain their identity documents.
