The largest windpark in the Caribbean is getting larger. EGE Haina reports the arrival of parts for erecting 13 towers as part of the 26 wind-powered towers that make up the second phase of the Los Cocos wind park in the southwestern province of Pedernales. The 26 new wind towers will increase generation capacity from 25 megawatts to 77 megawatts. The remaining 13 turbines are scheduled to arrive in July.
The wind turbines each have capacity to generate two megawatts, more than the 1.8 megawatts of the first phase that has been in operation since October 2011 with the installation of 14 wind turbines by the Danish firm Vestas.
