As of yesterday, Thursday 21 June, agents from the National Department of Investigations (DNI) are no longer working side by side with the Immigration inspectors at the border with Haiti and in the maritime ports and airports.

Migration Department director Jose Ricardo Taveras said that the change was being introduced in order to comply with the new rule number 285-04 of the Migration Law that states that the area of immigration control is to be reserved solely for migration inspectors.

Taveras clarified that nevertheless all personnel working for State Security would be available for a second inspection, if needed. Now there will no longer be two people in the same booth in immigration at ports, airports and the border.

There will be a separate inspection booth to check records of any passengers who have a suspicious profile.

Taveras stated that his organization was working hard with the National Police concerning robberies of arriving passengers at airports around the country and there was no evidence that any employee was linked to the bands of thieves, as reported in El Dia.
