21-year old Kenyan runner Julius Keter took the Hispaniola Lowenbrau Half Marathon in Santo Domingo on Sunday. Some 1,200 athletes competed in the event that started at the Mirador del Sur Avenue. This is the 4th consecutive time Keter wins the 21 km marathon. He clocked in 1:05:03. Second was Bernard Langart and third, Simon Sawe of the US, a past winner of the marathon. Alfonso Paula was the first Dominican to finish in the men's race with a time of 1:11:03.
In the women's race, Colombian Erika Abril was first with 1:18.01, followed by Mary Akor of the US, the winner of last year's race with 1:18.10., Dominican Andreina de la Rosa was third with 1:21:25.
Lowenbrau malt awarded the winners more than RD$700,000 in prizes.
The race took off at 5:07pm to avoid the intense heat of the day. Runners started at the Mirador del Sur avenue and raced along the Winston Churchill Avenue from Av. Charles Sumner down to Sarasota Avenue.
