The Archivo General de la Nacion is exhibiting on its outside gate reproductions of the high quality caricatures created by Jose Mercader on historic Dominican characters from the 19th century to present days. The caricatures feature politicians Juan Bosch, Joaquin Balaguer, Hipolito Mejia, businessmen Juan Hubieres and popular artists, such as Juan Luis Guerra, among many others. The comic or satiric representations are also available in a new book History of Dominican Caricatures (Historia de la caricatura dominicana) that is available for sale at the National Archives. The book includes other caricatures by artists Luis Garcia Ximpa, Ramon Oviedo, Harold Priego, Teddy Peguero, Joaquin de Alba (Kin), Antonio Bernard (Tom), Miche Medina, Roger Estevez and Priamo Morel. The exhibition will be open until the end of August at the outside gate of the National Archives at Calle Modesto Diaz, a block east of Abraham Lincoln Avenue.
