The joint commission that is studying the Supplementary Budget, which increases the current budget by some RD$51 billion, will present a favorable report to the full bodies of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies for the government to authorize the issue US$500 million in sovereign bonds towards the electricity subsidy. The bonds issue is part of the RD$51 billion supplementary budget package.
As reported, the legislators are convinced that there were only three alternatives: to increase the electricity rates, turn off the national electricity system or approve the bonds.
The legislators met with the executive vice-president of the State Electricity Companies (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini, yesterday, Monday 25 June and said they were convinced that authorizing the bonds was the best solution. Budget Commission chairman, Senator Dionis Sanchez said they would report favorably to the floor of the Senate for the proposal to be passed in favor of the bonds authorization.
