View Full Version : IDB director says public debt is reasonable

The Inter-American Development Bank representative in the Dominican Republic, Manuel Labrado, considers the debt level of the Dominican Republic to be "normal," as reported in Diario Libre. He estimated the Dominican debt at around a reasonable 30%. Labrado said the IDB has approved around US$300 million for the Dominican public sector, and another US$70 million as budget support this year. There is US$130 million for the private sector and disbursements will be US$220 million this year, said the IDB rep. He added that the IDB is backing energy, transport, water, sanitation, agriculture, tourism and budgetary support.

Labrado was interviewed by Diario Libre after a meeting with representatives of small and medium-sized business in the Adoexpo-IDB-Fomin program. The IDB will be supporting 13 small companies with financial and technical assistance for US$184,000 to help them export to the US and Central American markets.
