Lawyer Ramon Antonio (Negro) Veras said yesterday, Monday 25 June that there are no valid reasons for the trial of the case of attempted murder against his son, Jordi Veras, to be moved to another jurisdiction. Adriano Roman, who is accused of being the mastermind of the murder attempt, has been trying to get the venue changed.

The Santiago jurist said that because of the evidence gathered and the legality that surrounds the evidence, the case of Jordi Veras stands up to all of the proof that might be presented in the trial.

Veras Senior told Diario Libre: "We hope that in Jordi's case the court issues a sentence that is strictly according to the law, the evidence and justice." He added that he still trusts the Dominican justice system and the reliability of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice. Negro Veras said that he regretted that contract killers and organized crime are trying to bring Dominican society to its knees, which should be faced up to by all Dominicans.

Jordi Veras was shot in the early morning of 2 June 2010 when he arrived in his car for his television show on Channel 25.

The District Attorney for the National District, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, said that she thought the attempt to move the Jordi Veras case to another jurisdiction was absurd. This is what the hustling by people close to Roman is trying to accomplish. The official, who was the District Attorney of Santiago at the time of the incident, said that there is no danger in hearing the case in Santiago. "I think that the penal process has regulations and a logic has been established by the legislator and in the case of Jordi Veras, with these delays, which are clearly inappropriate, these regulations are not being complied with," she stated in reference to the fact that the preliminary hearings have been delayed on more than 14 occasions.
