Despite the ban on the sale of natural rock salt for human consumption, some colmados are still selling it. The Ministry of Public Health prohibits the sale of natural rock salt because it does not contain iodine.
Deputy Minister of Environmental Health Luis Emilio Felix Roa said he was aware that the salt was sold in some smaller colmados but he would soon be ensuring that any places selling the product would have to stop. He stressed that there were regulations in place to close any businesses that continued with this practice, as reported in Diario Libre.
