President Leonel Fernandez will leave for Europe on Sunday, 1 July and will return on Wednesday, 11 July. His agenda consists of meetings in Spain, Italy, France and. He travels on a commercial flight on Sunday evening to Madrid.

In Spain he will meet with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and with King Juan Carlos. He will also be meeting with former Prime Ministers Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Jose Maria Aznar. He will also hold working meetings with Nicolas Sartorius and Vicente Palacios of Fundacion Alternativas. He will be present at a book launch for "Comentarios a la Constitucion de la Republica Dominicana" (Comments on the Dominican Constitution) at the Centro de Estudios Politicos y Constitucionales.

In Rome he will chair the 6 July high-level debate at the FAO headquarters on the causes and consequences of excessive volatility and speculation in food prices. His agenda in Rome also includes meetings with Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Pontifical Culture Council.

In Paris, he will meet with eminent sociologists Michel Wieviorka and Alain Tourine, the former Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri and a group and economists, and the director general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova.

In Brussels, his agenda consists of meetings with Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament at the European Union headquarters, and with the cabinet of the European delegation of the European Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly. His agenda also includes a meeting with Herman Van Rompuy, president of the European Union Council. Both are scheduled to hold a press conference afterwards.
