As of today, Friday 29 June a pound of chicken will cost RD$43, according to an agreement between the National Institute of the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro-Consumidor) and the chicken producers and supermarket representatives.
Pro-Consumidor director Altagracia Paulino said that a pound of chicken could not be sold for more than RD$43, and anyone who did would be penalized for speculation.
She also said that supermarkets could sell it at up to RD$45 as they had higher costs, but that fresh chicken was more expensive there than anywhere else, and suggested people went directly to the chicken shop instead.
She advised that if the consumers saw chicken being sold at a higher price they should report it to Pro-Consumidor.
The poultry producers said that they would give their response on Monday.
