According to El Dia, at least 59 people have died violent deaths so far this month, which is 19 cases more than May, most involving the use of firearms.

The newspaper mentions some horrific cases including the shooting of a 69-year old man and his 14-year old son in Pata de Gallina in Sabaneta de Yasica, the decapitation of 23-year old Albert de Jesus Acosta Marte in Bonao, the shooting of two men in Santiago and the stabbing of a 16-year old by another teenager.

In Salcedo four people died during confrontations between the police and the Popular Front (Falpo).

The Dominican College of Psychologists has said it is concerned about the high level of violence and that the State should pay attention to the multiple violent homicides occurring every day, not just about femicide.

According to psychologist Luis Berges there is a fundamental relationship between the possession of firearms and the increase in violence. He said that when someone has a firearm they feel more powerful and it increases their perception of dominance over other people. He also said the management of power is one of the key problems affecting the country, and firearms represented a symbol of such power.
