The National Drug Control Department (DNCD) has arrested the owner of a financial house in connection with an attempt by three "mules" to smuggle about 18 kilos of cocaine into Canada. Robinson de Pena Garcia was arrested on 27 de Febrero Avenue in Santo Domingo after DNCD agents arrested three Canadian women with 1,382 small packages of cocaine as they tried to leave the country through Punta Cana International Airport. According to El Nuevo Diario, Judge Edwin Andres Rijo from the Court of Permanent Attention of the province of La Altagracia issued the arrest warrant.
