President-elect Danilo Medina travels to Colombia today Thursday, 5 July from Las Americas International Airport. He returns to Colombia and Brazil this week, two countries that he visited during the election campaign. Santo Domingo East mayor Juan de los Santos is among the eight or ten-person delegation that will be accompanying the President-elect on this trip. Jose del Castillo, Gonzalo Castillo, Gustavo Montalvo and Jose Ramon Peralta will also join Medina on his 10-day tour of South America. Last year Medina met with Colombian leaders and discussed investments in the DR. He is also reported to have held meetings with experts on drug and crime prevention.
This will be his first trip abroad since winning the 20 May election. As presidential candidate, he traveled to Brazil in July 2011 and met with President Dilma Rouseff and former President Luiz Inacio (Lula) Da Silva, and then to Colombia in October 2011.
