Peravia senator Wilton Guerrero is once again speaking out against complicity between the nation's security forces and drug traffickers. As reported in El Dia, Guerrero said yesterday, Wednesday 4 July that many of the people behind the crimes that affect the country have "godfathers" in the National Drug Control Department and the National Police. He said that he has confidential information to support his claim.

He called out openly to Bonao senator Felix Nova, saying that if he wants peace to return to his province, he needs to focus on the Police headquarters in Bonao. He said that was where the godfathers of crime, robbery have ties.

"Take a look at the robbery and stolen goods recovery department. That is where the godfathers of the robbers and assailants who are causing havoc in the DR are," he said, as reported in El Dia.

The legislator said that there has been an increase in crime nationwide since the recent presidential election. He called for the Police chief to remember that President Leonel Fernandez said there would be zero tolerance to crime in his mandate.

"At this time of transition, nervousness and desperation has taken control of the middle command levels of the Police and the DNCD that believe their future is uncertain and are preparing their bags for what could happen," he said.

He urged the chief of the Police to order those responsible at the Department of Criminal Investigations to rein in the officers who command those departments at a national level. He said that now there is maximum tolerance towards criminals and robbers at the Police and the DNCD.
