Representatives of the main state security organizations met in Dajabon in order to agree on how to control animal theft, traffic of illegal immigrants, crime and other border concerns.

The meeting was held in the customs office in Dajabon and was attended by General Purito Suarez de Jesus, from the Second Army Brigade based in Santiago, Colonel Feyson Lagane Vargas from the Air Force, Colonel Miguel de Jesus Duran Polanco, of the National Police and Juan de Jesus Cruz Socorro from the Special Border Security Corps (Cesfront).

Also present were representatives from the Immigration Department, the National Department of Investigations (DNI), from J2, G2, the Border Intelligence Department and other local and regional authorities.

In the meeting the emphasis was on proposals to stop the theft of livestock and vehicles, traffic of illegal immigrants, arms and drugs. Whilst there have always been these issues at the border, reports indicate the situation has become worse over the last few months. Farmers say that the animal thefts have increased and it is also said that the flood of illegal immigration is now more than the days and months after the earthquake in January 2010.
