The ex presidential candidate of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Hipolito Mejia said yesterday, 5 July that although he appreciated the support of people like Citizens' Participation and Monsenor Agripino Nunez Collado to help look for a satisfactory solution to the impasse in his party, he preferred that it should be the party itself that decide what to do.

He made the comments whilst attending the Church of Our Lady of Mercedes where a celebratory mass was held to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the launch of the PRD following the fall of the dictator Trujillo.

At the end of the mass, Friar Santiago Bautista urged the PRD to take the path of unity for the good of the country, at a time when one single party controls all of the powers of the state.

On yesterday, 5 July, the president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party, (PRD) Miguel Vargas, speaking at a press conference, said that he was willing to talk to the Former President and PRD presidential candidate Hipolito Mejia, who he described as the man who wanted to take away his position and expel some of his supporters from the party.

He said that everyone in the party had the same right to discuss their ideas, whether a party member, a president of a municipality or him as president of the party.

Last night, Vargas spoke to the nation about what the President-elect Danilo Medina is proposing, including education and fiscal reform, health, social security, local government, the environment, judicial security, competition and equality.
