Five armed men robbed a truck at kilometer 43 of the Duarte Highway, which was carrying 2,459 kilos of gold and unprocessed silver in 19 55-galon tanks, with an estimated value of US$1,231,642 on Thursday, 5 July.
The truck is property of the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom).
The driver of the vehicle, Ignacio de los Santos, and ex police major Victor Rosario Concepcion said that they were relieving themselves at the side of the road when they were surprised by the armed men who tied them up and stole the truck.
The Police recovered the truck that had been abandoned in the municipality of Monte Plata.
