The public prosecutor from Hato Mayor, Manuel Emilio Santana Montero, announced in a press conference on 5 July, that all of the members of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) have been dismissed, accused of allowing the increase in the sale and consumption of drugs in the eastern city. He said that in the last two months, Hato Mayor has become a drug distribution center and that would not be allowed.
Prior to the announcement, Santana Montero had met with Rolando Rosado Mateo, head of the DNCD, who confirmed the behavior was unacceptable.
Amongst those dismissed was the head of the DNCD in Hato Mayor, Lieutenant Agustin Rodriguez who was accused of drinking in bars with drug dealers.
Today new members of the DNCD will arrive at the police station in Hato Mayor in order to combat the situation.
